“We designed our home and built it in the middle of an ancient, black walnut orchard. It is open and airy with a rustic lodge feel. When it came time for the stairwell we wanted something as special as our home and its location. We turned to Zane Smith and asked him to partner with us for the design. Marlin and I were completely taken in by his grand stairway at Many Glacier Lodge in Glacier National Park, and felt confident in his ability to design and build a stairway to meet our wants and needs. We were not disappointed. His material suggestion of red oak to coordinate with out trim was perfect, and he brought the outside in by integrating walnut into the treads and posts. Because I love decorating with burlap and rust, he recommended using powder-coated metal for the balustrade in keeping with our rustic atmosphere. The end product is a magnificent, grand staircase, scaled to fit our home. Its sweeping line is a functional work of art.
Zane Smith is a gifted, master craftsman with and artistic vision; wood is his palette and a staircase his canvas. His exceptional knowledge and people skills make him comfortable to work with. We are completely pleased with Zane and his grand creation.”
